Plymouth’s historic harbour is the perfect place to enjoy a family day out with all the family. Our four-legged friends are often left behind when we head out for a spot of lunch or an evening meal but, thanks to the numerous dog-friendly restaurants in Sutton Harbour, that doesn’t always have to be the case. The harbour is home to a variety of pawsome restaurants, cafes and eateries that welcome dogs – and may even give them a little tasty treat.
Here is our list of places to eat when you have your pup in tow.
Dog-friendly restaurants
Situated next to the National Marine Aquarium on the eastern side of the harbour, Rockfish offers fresh, locally caught seafood to eat in or takeaway. The seafood restaurant has a new al-fresco desk with outside seating – an ideal spot to watch the boats come into the marina and enjoy a delicious meal with your pooch.
If it’s pizza night for you then The Stable is the perfect port of call for you and your pup. Just around the corner from Boston Tea Party, the venue offers a wide selection of sourdough pizzas with locally sourced toppings, tasty pies and a wide range of vegan options. The Stable is also well known for its huge selection of ciders – although we wouldn’t recommend sharing these with your dog. The restaurant has extensive outside seating with stunning views of the harbour and Plymouth’s Barbican.
Supha’s Street Food Emporium serves fresh street-food style dishes with strong Asian influences and an extensive vegan and vegetarian selection. Although Supha’s doesn’t permit dogs inside, there is outdoor seating available along the water’s edge overlooking Sutton Harbour Marina.
The Harbour Seafood Restaurant welcomes pups every day until 7pm. The Harbour has a variety of fresh seafood, salads and vegetarian options on its menu with lunchtime specials and out-doors seating on the harbourside.
Cafes that welcome furry friends
Located on the corner of Vauxhall Street and Exchange Street in Jamaica House, Boston Tea Party allows dogs both inside and outside on their terrace overlooking the harbour. The café offers a range of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes with an extensive selection of hot and cold drinks. The team encourage you to ask for a bowl of water for your furry friend while you tuck into your delicious food.
Daisy’s Tea Rooms and Coffee Shop is the ulti-mutt dog-friendly venue in Sutton Harbour. The tea rooms is named after owners’ own beloved pooch, Daisy, and they love seeing customers bring their own dogs to visit – Daisy herself also often makes an appearance. The cafes serves a range of homemade cakes, afternoon tea and lunch foods as well as a delicious Sunday roast.
Rockets and Rascals is an unusual café that offers a variety of breakfast and lunch goodies and doubles as a bike emporium offering servicing and bike hire. It’s a great place to bring your own little rascal; they just ask for them to be kept on a lead.
Located on one of the oldest streets in Plymouth, the Tudor Rose Teahouse and Gardens on New Street offers a variety of cakes and coffees, perfect for refuelling on a walk along the harbour.
Pubs with pups
If you’re in the mood for some pub grub then there are plenty of pubs in and around the har-bour that are more than happy for your dog to tag along:
The Ship offers a range of classic pub dishes and has extensive outdoor seating.
The Navy Inn on Quay Square might even offer a little treat for them to nibble on while you enjoy your own meal.
The Admiral McBride serves traditional pub food accompanied with real ales, wine and cider.
The Crown and Anchor is another great haunt located on the Barbican, opposite The Harbour restaurant.
The Maritime Inn on Southside Street is another option for classic pub grub.
You can also enjoy a bite to eat while walking your dog along the harbour at the range of alfres-co eateries dotted along the quay including Alfresco, Cap’n Jaspers and The Greek.
