Welcome back to boating

With the warmer weather and sunshine making a welcome appearance, it’s fantastic to see so many of our loyal berth holders returning to the marina in the heart of Plymouth – and of course to welcome new members to the Sutton Harbour Marina family.

Since 4th July it has been possible to stay onboard your vessel overnight thanks to the latest Government and WHO guidelines following the lockdown period, and we are seeing increasing numbers returning to the marina and enjoying the opportunity to get out on the water.

The Sutton Harbour Marina team prides itself on providing exemplary customer care and attention, and during the unprecedented circumstances caused by Covid-19, staff have been extremely busy looking after both berth holders and taking care of their yachts, especially when it was not possible for boat owners to visit their vessels.

Regular updates were emailed to all berth holders from March to July keeping everyone current with the latest Government guidelines and how that impacted the marina leisure industry – and what that in turn meant for Sutton Harbour and all staff, crew and customers.

Despite very difficult times, the marina crew endeavoured to continue working to look after all the yachts by checking lines, fenders, security and generally keeping a watchful eye, especially when everyone was instructed to stay at home.  The marina staff also tried to keep in touch with berth holders as much as possible by telephone and offer their services to carry out more unique requests such as switching appliances on/off, removing perishables and other helpful actions upon request to ensure yachts were all kept as safe as possible.

Both during lockdown and in preparation for the return of our berth holders, the marina team increased hygiene standards further, installed sanitising stations and urged everyone to be vigilant with frequent hand washing and social distancing.

Sadly many of our regular events were unable to take place, and unfortunately our well-attended unique berth holder events programme is on hold until it is safe to resume, but the team is looking forward to some ‘socially distanced catch-ups’ over the coming weeks as everyone has truly missed the family vibe of Sutton Harbour Marina – something that makes the marina truly unique.

The marina office team have had some really lovely feedback from our berth holders during the past few months which has helped keep spirits up, including:

‘Thank you for the call, and nice to know she’s in safe hands’

‘So glad to hear that our vessel was well looked after and the fact you were open for contractors was great’

‘Thank you for deferring our contract, it is really awkward as we can’t leave our current marina and are so desperate to get to you, but hopefully by the start of the summer we can really enjoy all Sutton Harbour has to offer’

‘So glad to be back in the marina, we’ve missed you all’

‘I used the facilities yesterday and felt very safe. As always, the bathrooms were spotless’
‘Nice to see all the sanitisers and COVID posters around the site’

The great news is that we still have the rest of the summer to enjoy exploring this beautiful part of the world out on the water.  Whether you love to spend time relaxing onboard in the marina at weekends and make the most of the historic harbour atmosphere on your doorstep, or take a short hop to Cawsands Bay or the stunning River Yealm, drop the anchor and get the paddle board out, or sail further afield to Falmouth or Salcombe, Sutton Harbour Marina makes for both a safe and stunning staycation.

Sutton Harbour Marina – where the city meets the sea, a safe haven for your yacht with easy access to some of the best sailing waters in the UK.
