The top vegan-friendly restaurants in Sutton Harbour

Veganism is on the rise – and there are an estimated 600,000 people in the UK who are vegan today, according to The Vegan Society. Over the past four years, the number of people choosing to remove all meat and animal products, such as eggs and dairy, from their diet has increased fourfold.

Although most eateries now offer vegetarian and vegan options, it can still be difficult to find a good vegan-friendly restaurant. To celebrate World Vegan Month, which takes place in November every year, we have compiled a list of some of the best restaurants in Sutton Harbour and the Barbican quarter that offer delicious vegan dishes.

Boston Tea Party

Serving breakfast and brunch daily, Boston Tea Party offers a whole host of vegan alternatives from The Vegan Boss breakfast to the Plant Burger. The restaurant is situated on the corner of Vauxhall Street and Exchange Street with extensive indoor and outdoor seating. Many vegetarian options on the menu also have vegan alternatives available, hot drinks can be accompanied with dairy-free milk and there’s a wide range of vegan smoothies on offer too.

The Stable

The Stable is located on Vauxhall Street with stunning views across the harbour and is renowned for its delicious, sourdough pizzas with fresh, locally sourced toppings. The restaurant is incredibly vegan-friendly, offering a fantastic menu of choices with sharers, pizzas, pies and sides. Dishes available include garlic bread, the Thyme of your Life salad and the Blazing Jack pizza.

The Stable also offers veggie and vegan adaptations of main menu choices if there’s something specific that catches your eye – just ask a member of staff.

Supha’s Street Food Emporium

With a breath-taking view of Sutton Harbour Marina, Supha’s Street Food Emporium serves up seasonal, fresh produce in a street-food style with Asian influences. The restaurant is often praised for being vegan-friendly thanks to its extensive selection of freshly prepared vegetable-based dishes, including a spicy potato salad and stir-fried bean sprouts. Many of their dishes are also naturally gluten free.

HonkyTonk Wine Library

HonkyTonk is the perfect spot for wine lovers as well as those looking for a relaxing hot drink and a little lunchtime bite to eat. The wine lounge offers a range of deli foods and nibbles throughout the day, with a vegan sharing platter available. The sharer, which serves two to four people, includes Italian flatbread, roasted vegetables, mixed herbs and vegan mozzarella.

The Ship

One of the most visited haunts along the harbour, The Ship on Quay Road serves traditional pub grub, a range of drinks and is also vegan-friendly. The St Austell Brewery pub has specially designated vegan dishes on the menu including tapas, various sides and a spicy vegan chilli, as well as vegetarian dishes which have a vegan option available.

The Tudor Rose Tearooms

The Tudor Rose Tearooms and Garden is one of the most popular cafes in the historic Barbican quarter and is based in one of the oldest streets in Plymouth. The Tudor Rose serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea as well as delicious Sunday roasts. On the menu are a great range of vegetarian options which can be adapted to suit your needs, including roast dinners, as well as vegan cream teas.
