Spring into Spring at Sutton Harbour

Spring is just around the corner at Sutton Harbour and there are plenty of wonderful things to do. Whether you love embracing the outdoors, making memories, or indulging in delicious food there is something for everyone.

Outdoor Adventures

As the weather warms up and the days get longer, it’s a great time to head outdoors. After a winter of being cooped up, the sun is starting to shine, and flowers are beginning to bloom. Kick off your springtime adventure with a leisurely stroll along the picturesque seafront. Feel the gentle sea breeze against your skin as you soak in panoramic views of the Sound. Catch sailboats gliding across the water and look out towards Mount Batten.

You can also take more leisurely strolls around the harbour and along the historic cobbled pathways to take in the sights and smells of Sutton Harbour and the Barbican. Pack a picnic, or head to one of the many eateries in the area for a delicious dinner!

Spring Cuisine

Every spring, lots of Sutton Harbour’s eateries refresh their menus to make way for the summer season. There is plenty of fresh produce and flavours to try. Indulge in freshly caught seafood dishes, savour artisan pizzas with a view, or enjoy a leisurely brunch featuring locally sourced ingredients. From cosy waterfront bistros to upscale dining establishments, there’s no shortage of delicious options.

Choose a charming waterfront café like the Cornish Bakery for coffee and cake with a view or head next door to the Armado Lounge for something a bit more filling.

If it’s warm enough to dine outside, Supha’s has a menu bursting with pan-Asian delights and fantastic views. It will really start to feel like summer as you watch the sunset and breathe in the fresh air. You can also take a seat with a view over the water at Miller & Carter, The Stable and The Ship.

Spring symbolises freshness and vitality, so why not dine on some fresh fish? Rockfish serves fish caught locally that day and you can even see the fishing boats across the way. If you’re after a more classic fish and chips to take with you on your walk around the seafront, The Harbour offers great traditional options as well as vegan and vegetarian too.

Shop Local

Is it time for a spring wardrobe update or a refresh of your home? Southside Street is the place to go. Supporting local businesses is easy when there are craft shops, boutique clothing stores and eclectic galleries showcasing local talent. Whether you’re searching for unique souvenirs or a one-of-a-kind piece, you’re sure to find treasures that capture the essence of Britain’s Ocean City.

There are a whole host of galleries, charity shops, plant shops and an engaging mix of shops in the House That Jack Built.

Seasonal Events

No visit to the Ocean City would be complete without a trip to the National Marine Aquarium. Treasured by both locals and visitors alike, you can immerse yourself in the mesmerising underwater world. If you’re looking for a day out with the kids this spring, be sure to check the National Marine Aquarium’s busy events calendar as there are always exciting events going on.

Step into a realm of coral reefs, exotic marine life, and interactive exhibitions to educate and entertain visitors of all ages. Plus learn about all the work the aquarium is doing for conversation and maintenance of our precious marine environment.

Spring time also means that Plymouth is gearing up for a busy calendar of events taking us all the way through the summer. On the 28th April, you will be able to enter Britain’s Ocean City Running Festival 2024 (or just spectate!). The race begins on the Plymouth Hoe Promenade and takes to the streets of the city from 8:15am so get down early!

In the summer there will be a series of concerts with big names such as Tom Jones and Blondie performing right on Plymouth Hoe. There will be the Seafest, Flavour Fest, Pirates Weekend, and the British Fireworks Championships.
