The award-winning Sutton Harbour Marina invited everyone to its first virtual online event – a Marina open day – to give potential berth holders a ‘sneak-peak- inside the marina and highlight the benefits of keeping a yacht in the historic heart of Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City.
The 5 Gold Anchor marina is taking part in this year’s Southampton International Boat Show, called Boats 2020, with an exhibit at the country’s premier boating festival from 11th – 20th September.
During the 10 day event, Sutton Harbour Marina is also hosting a Virtual Open Day Live from Plymouth on Saturday 19th September so boat owners can tune in and see for themselves the many attractions of Sutton Harbour, a safe haven where the city meets the sea.
The Virtual Open Day will be hosted by Marina Manager, Mark Brimacombe and Events Manager, Claire Ashton, via Facebook Live on the Sutton Harbour Marina Facebook channel from 2pm and includes a walk-through of the marina facilities, a Q&A session, chats with existing berth holders and an introduction to the events and visitor attractions on offer in Plymouth, provided by Plymouth City Council’s Visit Plymouth team.
Mark Brimacombe, Marina Manager, said: “There really is no substitute for being able to see for yourself the stunning location that Sutton Harbour Marina offers, with its calm, protected marina environment and secure berthing enabled by the 24/7 lock gates combined with the exceptional marina facilities on site and the wide selection of harbourside restaurants, bars, visitor attractions and shops all just minutes from the pontoons in the surrounding harbourside and Barbican area.
“We are proud to be promoting both Sutton Harbour Marina and our contemporary King Point Marina based at Millbay with an exhibit at this year’s Southampton Boat Show. We hope this Virtual Open Day, hosted via Facebook Live given the current limitations on public events owing to necessary Covid-19 safety guidelines, will provide a further opportunity for boat owners to find out more about what Sutton Harbour Marina can offer for both visitor and annual berthing.”
Southampton International Boat Show is Britain’s biggest and best-loved festival of boating, and though this year’s event, Boats 2020, will be a scaled down event focusing on ‘boat sales’ in comparison to previous years, in line with social distancing guidelines limiting attendance numbers, the 10-day event will show the latest models and equipment to potential boat buyers, with a line-up of over 90 boats on display, and more than 60 land-side exhibitors taking part.
Sutton Harbour Marina is displaying a joint exhibit with its sister marina, King Point Marina, in the Which Marina? arena run by The Yacht Harbour Association.
The exhibit will promote berthing opportunities in Plymouth on a national scale to boat owners from across the UK, with brochures available as well as promotion of the Virtual Open Day to encourage boat owners to tune in and see Sutton Harbour Marina for themselves.
Boat owners keeping their yachts in Sutton Harbour Marina enjoy an unparalleled safe haven for their boats thanks to the exceptionally secure berthing offered by the double lock gates at Sutton Lock, which provide protection from all weathers year-round and offer a safe, secure environment for peace of mind.
Sutton Harbour Marina is also perfectly placed to make the most of what Devon and Cornwall can offer, with easy access to some of the UK’s best sailing waters combined with berthing pontoons for up to 420 vessels in the very heart of Plymouth’s charming historic waterfront and Barbican, and all just a short stroll from the city centre.
Sutton Harbour offers a year-round array of events, visitor attractions, harbourside restaurants, bars and shops, the National Marine Aquarium and England’s second largest fresh fish market at Plymouth Fisheries, and is perfectly placed to make the most of Plymouth’s lively events calendar. Britain’s Ocean City proudly hosts international events such as the British Fireworks Championships and The Lonely Rock Race, as well as playing host to a number of Mayflower 400 commemoration events, now rescheduled for 2021, to mark the anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers sailing to America.
