Following successful completion of replacing the rams on the inner lock gates, we will return to Sutton Harbour to replace hydraulic rams on the outer lock gates.
The work is essential planned maintenance to ensure the lock gates continue to provide flood protection to the homes and businesses in the Plymouth Barbican area, as well as ensuring the fishing and leisure fleets can continue to operate.
MONDAY 15 SEPTEMBER
Our contractors, Kier, will set up using the area around the Rockfish restaurant. The compound location will be behind the Rockfish café. A crane will be placed in front of the Rockfish café and this area will be closed for safety. The footbridge will remain open.
TUESDAY 16 & WEDNESDAY 17 SEPTEMBER
The work will be completed on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 September. On Tuesday 16, use of the lock will be disrupted when the crane is “booming” over the lock. At this time, the swing-bridge will also be positioned across the lock, so as not to inhibit the crane’s movements. Boats cannot pass underneath the crane’s boom or swing-bridge, for health and safety reasons.
During these two days, the footbridge will be closed during daytime hours, approximately 0800 to 1800. The alternative walking route is around the harbour. A map will be shown on both sides of the footbridge for information. The bridge must remain closed to ensure the safety of the public when the crane is being used and when vessels are able to access through the lock.
To minimise impact on harbour users, access will be allowed through the lock during free flow. However, in the case that a delay occurs, we may need to close the lock gates for a short time outside of free flow.
Free flow times are as follows:
Tuesday 16th September
11:25 to 15:39 |
Wednesday 17th September
12:59 to 17:22 |
Thursday 18th September (if required)
13:58 to 18:48 |
These free flow times will be posted on noticeboards in the harbour. Updates will be provided to harbour users from the lockkeepers on channel 12.
THURSDAY 18 SEPTEMBER
If extra time is needed to complete the works, there may be disruption on Thursday.
Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
