Spending spring in Sutton Harbour

There will be more time available for locals to enjoy the harbourside in the coming weeks, whether it’s on a waterfront walk taking in the view of Plymouth Sound and Sutton Harbour Marina or picking up a takeaway from one of the eateries along the quayside. The change in season also comes with a few changes to restrictions planned for the coming weeks.

Here’s how you can safely enjoy spending time in Sutton Harbour this spring:

Latest updates

Following the Government announcement on Monday 22nd February, individuals can leave home and enjoy spending time outdoors with their household or support bubble, or meet with one person outside of their household, from Monday 8th March. This means locals will be able to come to the harbour to sit and enjoy food and drink from one of the takeaway eateries which are open along the quayside.

From Monday 29th March, outdoor gatherings of either 6 people or 2 households will be allowed, so you can enjoy spending time in Sutton Harbour with up to five friends.

From Monday 12th April, hospitality venues can open and serve people outdoors only. Many of the restaurants and cafes in Sutton Harbour which have been closed, or offering takeaways, during lockdown will be able to reopen their outdoor seating areas to customers.
A lot of our popular eateries are already taking bookings – visit their social feeds or website for more information and to book.

Many local venues in Sutton Harbour are continuing to offer takeaways and deliveries in the meantime:

Food & drink takeaways and deliveries

HonkyTonk Wine Library is offering click & collect and home deliveries, running on Fridays and Saturdays, 3pm – 5pm. On their takeaway menu you can choose from:
·    Braised lamb shank
·    Salmon, cod and haddock pie
·    Chickpea and butternut curry

Are you a fan of seafood? Order from The Harbour Seafood Restaurant’s delicious takeaway menu with a range of dishes on offer. You can get your order delivered to your door via Deliveroo or you can collect your meal from the restaurant. Visit the website for the full menu and contact details.

You can enjoy a range of dishes from Supha’s Street Food Emporium in the comfort of your own home. Visit their website to explore the extensive menu of delicious street food- style dishes with Asian influences and order your meals to collect.
Click & collect available Wednesday – Friday, 5pm-8:30pm and Saturday & Sunday, 2pm-8:30pm.

Many of the alfresco eateries dotted around the harbourside are also offering takeaway food and drink, including Cap’n Jaspers, The Greek, Louise’s Coffee and Donuts and Alfresco. 

Want to cook your own meal but need fresh seafood? Merchant units located at Plymouth Fisheries are also offering deliveries and collections. Locals can get seafood deliveries from city-based suppliers through the Call4Fish initiative which has been set up to help support the local fishing industry. Visit the website to find out more.

As well as this, Shop4Plymouth has been set up by Plymouth City Centre Company and Plymouth City Council, with support from Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, in a bid to reconnect the public with its local retailers, as well as supporting local businesses across the city. Shops, cafes and restaurants in the Sutton Harbour and Barbican area are featured on the site with information on offerings and contact details.

Supporting local businesses from home

Although their doors remain closed for now, you can still explore the UK’s largest aquarium. Say hi to over 4,000 sea creatures from your sofa and discover the NMA’s exciting exhibits on their virtual aquarium tour. There will be opportunities to ask the aquarium staff your burning questions about the ocean and the creatures who live there. You can even explore with aquarium with another household; more information can be found on the NMA website.

Many local businesses along the harbour are hosting virtual events, from wine tastings to conversations with special guests. Keep an eye on our social feeds for information and updates.

You can also support local businesses without spending a penny. Share the love on social media by engaging with your favourite waterfront businesses on their posts and share their content with your friends.

The Share a Smile campaign launched by our tenant PKF-Francis Clark aims to support tourism and leisure businesses and attractions across the South West by encouraging people to recommend their favourites on social media using #ShareaSmile. You can get involved by telling us your favourite places to visit along the harbour in just a few easy steps:

Enjoying the harbour responsibly 

We’re fortunate in Sutton Harbour and indeed in Plymouth to have some of the most stunning and historic places around us which have helped to sustain us all during the Coronavirus pandemic. We must continue to use these responsibly, safely and in line with the Government’s latest advice, while at the same time supporting our local businesses who are continuing to trade.

Members of the public can take a walk through history on the Harbour Heritage Trail, a one-mile circuit route around Sutton Harbour, learning more about Plymouth’s maritime history and visiting some of its most famous waterfront landmarks. You can find the Heritage Trail on the Plymouth Trails app, available to download on the App Store or Google Play.

We encourage anyone visiting the harbour to ensure they are following Government guidelines on social distancing. 

Sutton Harbour Marina 

Sutton Harbour Marina remains open, and the Marina berthing teams are here should berth holders need help to keep their boats safe and secure.

Berthing assistants are available 7 days a week, and will be undertaking regular boat checks. They can also help with any specific concerns such as turning off an electrical appliance, removing any perishable goods left aboard or any other issues you may have.
